We've seen how strong you can be, now we need your help.

If you are one of the millions in our community who have trained with us, practiced with us, or sought our help please add your name here and show your support. We hope to weather this crisis together.

Our coalition has created a letter to various levels of government outlining our needs in this crisis. Businesses and practitioners across the industry are signing on to our formal letter.

We aren’t asking you to sign the formal letter, but simply to show your support for our industry by adding your name here. Adding your name in support, makes our voice even stronger.

Please add your name and feel free to let us know why you are supporting health and wellness practitioners.

As a member of our community, you would be the first to know that our businesses have been required to shut down in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 with no option of working from home. Many of us have been working hard to find solutions to keep you fit and healthy during your self-isolation with Zoom workouts and messages of encouragement. But this alone can't keep us afloat, and we are suffering under the weight of our rents.

The health and wellness industry plays a significant role in improving the physical and mental health of Canadian residences, employs thousands of workers, and represents a significant economic and social infrastructure; however, to date there has been no indication from government entities of plans for bailouts or additional support for business owners, operators and our workers.

The mental health and social benefits provided by health and wellness types of businesses cannot be understated, and the loss of businesses and healthcare workers that offer an outlet for people and a ‘home-away-from-home’ would have a devastating ripple effect across multiple other sectors. We play a crucial piece in the fight against COVID-19. At a time where Canadian’s mental health is so fragile, our industry’s work will help provide relief to the already heavily burdened healthcare workers.

Supporting Canadians to fight anxiety, depression and help them to recover from this traumatic time will in return increase workforce productivity and lower healthcare costs. When we beat this pandemic, we want to be there for you. But we need help.

"The impact of COVID 19 has been far-reaching. In addition to the business, our trainers (staff) and members (customers) have all been uprooted.”

I feel that small business gyms should be able to stay open if they are running at a low capacity and following strict sanitization guidelines and wearing masks. This will help not only support these businesses to stay a float but also help people to have some sense or normality and an outlet during these difficult times.

The gym quite literally saved my life as I navigated the complicated world of escaping domestic abuse (as a single mom to a child with special needs). Now as a trainer, I see daily the effects my workplace has on the mental health of my community!

As a representative of the two structures of mental health and physical health, I say with full confidence that physical activity is the main factor in maintaining the health of society, especially in such a difficult period. And this has been proven not by me, but by science. Fitness facilities have to work ! They are safe! They comply with all regulations ! They help a huge number of people stay healthy in every sense of the word !

Fitness has a direct impact on chronic illness and especially mental health, we cannot forget about the kids as well we kept them indoors for 8months and now the only excersise they get is 30min 1times a week. What a joke. We must do better job ensuring their mental health is ok as well. With suicides and bullying in schools on the rise from the aftermath of lockdowns and lack of the ability of social interaction we have a different pandemic on our hands then Covid19. We are in a crises of raising a population of addicts with incompetency if social interaction, we have so gratiously handed over or basic civil rights and freedoms. What comes next? Don’t shut down the gyms and sports activities for all adults, kids, or elderly. This is the only saving grace we have.

I know for myself going to the gym and working out helps my mental health dramatically and also helps with my 3 bulged discs by keeping me moving and muscles strong.

Fitness studios show should not be categorized with bars and restaurants. We provide an essential wellness service that preempts depression and anxiety treatments and keeps people healthy and sane during difficult times. This situation has proven to me just how out of touch our Govt is with the science and understanding around the benefits of physical activity and wellness, and frankly it’s unsettling. Is it 2020 or the 1970s? Why are we living in a world where takeout is prioritized over a workout? I’m sickened and frustrated. I’ve had enough. Fitness is essential. Look to the data. Stop fuelling drug and alcohol dependencies and start caring for your people in a preemptive way.

As a Registered Nurse, I know the importance of health and wellness practitioners. Personally and professionally, I stand with them. We need physical activity to protect and take care of our physical and mental health. If it can be done safely, I hope these services can be offered. If it can’t be done safely, I hope the government prioritizes holistic health during and after the pandemic… protecting health and wellness professionals and their organizations. Thank you for all you do!

The gym is so important for maintaining physical and mental health, personally I suffered greatly in both of these areas during the first lockdown and I cannot bear the thought of enduring the same decline again and I know I am not alone in feeling that way. We need to stand up together end fight to keep our gyms open during these stressful and uncertain times because the gym is such an important coping mechanism for many and that should not be taken away from us. The gym is 100% an essential service and needs to be treated as such.
