We have been shut down since early March and like many health care clinics, we do not qualify for current government relief programs. Aid with rent and expenses for health care clinics should be considered, especially as self isolation recommendations continue. As more time passes, it obviously becomes more and more difficult to cover these costs.

I have completely shut my doors and cannot afford the commercial rent.

I worry everyday about my patients, especially those who need their treatment sessions to help them with their activities of daily living. I am also concerned about my staff and about my businesses. I would love to unite my voice to similar professionals and businesses.

As a Physiotherapist and business owner, I don’t have any “employees”, we are all sub-contracted into my company and also at the other facilities I work at. Rehabilitation clinics do not fall into any business loan criteria as of today, furthermore still obligated to pay all commercial expanses.

    Thank you,

    Mohamed Abdelkader

I am a registered massage therapist and due to COVID-19 am unable to work because my treatments require me to physically touch my clients. With the clinic that I work at having to close their doors, the clinic owner will not be able to pay their bills and expenses. Please provide some relief for health and wellness workers that are unable to work because we can no longer provide treatments for our clients because of COVID-19 and social distancing.

We have been closed fully since March to do our part to flatten the cover. Based on our business structure many of the current government programs are not available to us. The government should be offering a rent abatement strategy to help struggling health and wellness companies.

Align Massage Therapy endorsed via 2020-04-22 09:09:45 -0400
Align Massage Therapy has 6 locations across Ottawa, and employs 70 health care professionals as Independent Contractors. We have closed our doors completely due to the shutdown, as Massage Therapy is not an essential service. Rent, utilities and insurance all need to be paid, but with zero revenue coming in. There is no clear end in sight to this closure, and no guidance as to what our professions will look like post-pandemic, and so the financial uncertaintly is deeply distressing.

After over a decade of providing design ideas, websites, and equipment for nearly 80 martial arts studios, police foundation, military services and private schools across canada we are now facing a massive drop of %85 in sales. This barely covers our hydro & Internet bills. After for us a record setting 2018 we finally had enough capital to stop leasing & purchase our own 4500sqft facility which does unfortunatelycomes with a rather large mortgage, we are an estimated 3 weeks from being much in the RED! Nothing keeps me up more at night than not being able to provide for my family, my staffs family, my customers, clients & its beginning to heavily weigh on my mind with anxiety, stress & depression. Thanks for listening, Justin Peacock

Presently most allied health clinics are run as sole proprietor businesses. The staff of therapists are not employees but independent contractors. Because of the model that most clinics run, we do not qualify for the loans or wage subsidies yet we are still responsible for the commercial expenses. In many cases, our leases have been personally guaranteed and therefore we can not just walk away or file for bankruptcy. We need to be part of the slow transition back to opening the economy, we also need assistance in the form of rent reduction or forgiveness. Deferrals won’t work when many clinics are running on a small profit margin.

We have had to close our doors to all in-person sessions at a time when we were going to be expanding to a new location. Our income is near nothing at this time as we are still having to pay expenses related to our business, building, and professional fees.

Please help keep the dream of many entrepreneurs alive. Having lost all walk-in traffic, and pausing all Memberships, it is unrealistic to expect health and fitness business owners meet their financial obligations during these unprecedented times. As a young, small business, my business does not qualify for any of the relief programs the government has generously offered. Yet I believe smaller businesses need more support in order to weather this storm compared to medium size, or more established small businesses with more cushion to fall on. We are in this together and that includes businesses with unique needs such as ours.
