We offer vital and deep emotional connections while also helping people’s physical bodies stay strong and mental health stable. I believe if we can operate classes in a safe way that follows all the health protocols, we should be able to remain open. As a small, boutique, and community based business, closing again would be devastating to our member’s health as well as my personal ability to create income. I don’t want to see the business I fought to build for 15 years go under when closing it may not be necessary.

My concern is that the government will have my boutique fitness studio along with other fitness facilities close down again without any regard that our business is following proper Heath and safety protocols and helping to maintain the health and well-being of our clients. We should be classified as an essential service and our industry cannot survive another closure.

I lost all of my work in March and finally was able to return to work only to lose one of my places of work again just a couple of weeks ago. The fitness and dance studios I teach at take great measures to ensure proper protocol are enforced and members and very conscious as well. We need these places to survive for our clients mental and physical health, our ability to make a living and so much more

We opened our doors a few months before the pandemic and have been hanging on by a shoestring since the pandemic started. Like so many other small business owners, we did not benefit from rent relief from our landlord. Our livelihood is at risk. Please keep gyms open. Our clients need our gym, our community needs gyms and as business owners we need to stay open.

Wheelhouse Cycle is such an important part of the Ottawa Community. As a rider and avid supporter, the new restrictions on 10 in a class make it even harder for them to stay open despite moving to a 5,000 sq ft. space. The guidelines need to be adjusted to address this!

I am a registered massage therapist and have had to shut down fully during this pandemic. RMTs obviously have no way of working from home or online without physically contacting people. It is exteremely concerning what will happen to our occupations after this pandemic and how it will affect our business in the long term. Many of us are self employed business owners but dont have “employees” working for us… this disqualifys us from the business loan help.

I just completed the build of a yoga studio that I have spent my life’s savings on. We were set to open in March – right as it was mandated that businesses close. As a new business we invested in the creation of the space, and have very little working capital. If this quarantine lasts until June, I will lose my business and everything I’ve worked my life for. I built the studio to bring physical and mental health to people in a world that is so difficult to navigate. This situation is further proving the need for our existence. Please …we need Help.

We are a gym that has been closed due to the Covid-19 crisis, and our landlord is not agreeing to accept the rent relief offered by the government.

I’m a personal trainer who works with mature adults and seniors. The pandemic has made a huge impact on my business. I’ve been able to pivot to online sessions for some, but many aren’t comfortable with the technology so they aren’t training.

I’ve lost 80% of my income, the government needs to get a plan to help us

I am a yoga instructor operating yoga classes from a home studio. Due to the pandemic, no classes can be held for the safety of my family as well as the community. However, I still need to continue to pay my insurance, license fee, certification fees, and more. I hope the government can provide some kind of subsidies for us.

We are a very small gym that only provides coach-led classes that was forced to shut our doors mid March due to Covid-19. We strongly feel that we provide an immensely valuable role in the local fitness community not only by improving the physical health of our members but also their mental health. With having zero income and bills still piling up we are uncertain of whether we will be able to weather this pandemic. We are hoping that boutique gyms such as ours will be given the ok to open sooner during Phase 2 of Alberta’s relaunch but who knows? Our gym is too small to qualify for the governments financial assistance programs. We are the small local gyms that are getting hardest hit by this.

My business has had no choice but to close its doors. We are a small and new entity in a small city. We now have $0.00 income for April May and likely June possible July. We will be reopening with backdated rent owing and no relief support to be found, not any savings are left as a new business without making s profit last year.

We have been closed with limited income since March 17th. Our only income has been with virtual classes but we have lost 75% of our revenue. To date we have managed to pay rent and utilities to avoid deferrals. We fear we will be unable to maintain through the summer without opening to some extent or seeing rental assistance.
