We have been closed since March 9th. Our income is our membership. No members no money coming in. We are a non for profit registered with the province of Ont. Our main goal is to get kids off 5he street. So for those kids we do not charge membership. We struggle to make rent in normal times , due to our cause. This COVID-19 shut down makes it impossible

We’ve had to close down our business with 400 members. We’ve shifted to online but worry how long we can hold on to our members. We are now at half the amount we used to have and it will only get worse… Our community needs us, not some liquor store!

My business was closed . All of my instructors are contractors so I cannot apply for the government loan. I am still expected to cover rent, utilities, etc and I do not have any income.

My economic situation has been and will continue to be completely devesated by the forced closure. I’m truly supportive of the need to be closed for business for the safety of my clients, but to be expected to pay bills and taxes during this crisis is deeply unfair. As a single mom, I’ve been in a disadvantaged position for many years. Struggling to make ends meet. This situation will likely lead to foreclosure and bankruptcy for myself. It’s a tragic situation for so many of us. Please have compassion to our situation and offer help, not impossible expectations. Thank you.

We’re in full shut down and doing our best to pivot things to an online platform. However, the existing expenses still affect us and though our landlord has been trying to help us, he too is affected by this pandemic.

A top-down approach will be necessary to support the full chain of stakeholders for small businesses and their respective landlords for the long run.

I’m a solopreneur and because of that, I am left with no funding. I would like financial support to help get my business online. I’m trying to get there but I have no money to hire help. I’m swamped and feeling overwhelmed with trying to survive.

I have a studio/clinic that has (RMT, chiropractic services, Physiotherapy, and personal trainers) . I totally understand why we have to shut our businesses down. Fortunately I’ve been able to do some virtual training to pay my utilities and put food on my table for my family. But I’m making 15-20 percent of what I was making so I’m unable to pay my commercial rent. Because I’m making over $1000 I don’t qualify for CERB and because I have independent contractors and not a payroll I can’t get the $40,000 loan. If clinic/studio owners have to make the ultimate sacrifice of having no business come through their doors. It’s money we will never get back. The least the government can make landlord do is give us a rent freeze for a few months or a generous reduction where we only pay the TMI and the rest of the rent is forgiven. Rent deferrals just put us in more debt it’s not help. Loans is not help just puts is in more debt. Why do the landlords get to continue to get their profit while the rest of us suffer.

We have been shut down since early March and like many health care clinics, we do not qualify for current government relief programs. Aid with rent and expenses for health care clinics should be considered, especially as self isolation recommendations continue. As more time passes, it obviously becomes more and more difficult to cover these costs.

I worry everyday about my patients, especially those who need their treatment sessions to help them with their activities of daily living. I am also concerned about my staff and about my businesses. I would love to unite my voice to similar professionals and businesses.

As a Physiotherapist and business owner, I don’t have any “employees”, we are all sub-contracted into my company and also at the other facilities I work at. Rehabilitation clinics do not fall into any business loan criteria as of today, furthermore still obligated to pay all commercial expanses.

    Thank you,

    Mohamed Abdelkader

I am a registered massage therapist and due to COVID-19 am unable to work because my treatments require me to physically touch my clients. With the clinic that I work at having to close their doors, the clinic owner will not be able to pay their bills and expenses. Please provide some relief for health and wellness workers that are unable to work because we can no longer provide treatments for our clients because of COVID-19 and social distancing.

We have been closed fully since March to do our part to flatten the cover. Based on our business structure many of the current government programs are not available to us. The government should be offering a rent abatement strategy to help struggling health and wellness companies.

Align Massage Therapy has 6 locations across Ottawa, and employs 70 health care professionals as Independent Contractors. We have closed our doors completely due to the shutdown, as Massage Therapy is not an essential service. Rent, utilities and insurance all need to be paid, but with zero revenue coming in. There is no clear end in sight to this closure, and no guidance as to what our professions will look like post-pandemic, and so the financial uncertaintly is deeply distressing.
