I’m worried for the small businesses that help keep our mental health in check will be forced to shut their doors for good. These small businesses have created a community and a safe place. We need make sure we are doing everything we can to keep them going.

I’m concerned for my friends in this community who will suffer from loss of earnings and the impact this will have on their lives and livelihood.

We had to close our doors on March 16 and lay off our staff. We are being forced to pay rent this month without any income. Without the support of our members AND the government, we could have to close permanently.

Closed down, no revenue and still expected to cover expenses (rent, loan interest, hydro, etc)

I’m worried my studios will close and I’ll be unable to continue having an avenue for sharing my knowledge to help enrich and empower people to be their best selves. I am afraid to lose my career that I’ve worked so long and hard for.

Like most small businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on our sales and revenue. We have provided our members with minimal equipment and content that allows them to workout from home. However, because they’re not getting the full service of equipment and classes that comes with their membership, we are offering a reduced rate, losing in significant membership sales. Personal training is also a big part of our business, and because we’re not able to service those clients, we are losing all of those sales.

I am unable to reach and train the majority of my clients due to their limited access at home and/or financial means, I am unable to provide my manual therapy services to this in need (now more than ever) and am not able to support myself financially or invest in making the necessary adaptations to shift my business to virtual/digital.

We have just surpassed the one year mark of being open and had a very successful first year. We were just getting the ball rolling and seeing the fruit of our growth -my partner and I finally started to pay ourselves. Our trainers received raises and we paid for them to take additional courses to further their education and continue growing. When the pandemic hit, we were forced to stop paying ourselves, lay off trainers who were finally getting their career rolling, and still continued to service our clients online. As we continue to stay loyal to our clients even though at this moment, we don’t know if our doors will ever reopen, we have been forced to stop several incoming payments from these clients. While we are forced to shut down by the government and stop our flow of income, we are still forced to pay our rent, hydro, taxes, and other incoming bills. At this rate we will NOT be reopening our business unless the government steps in and offers a solution -one that does not include incurring more debt. We work to make Canadians healthier both mentally and physically -our business WILL be essential when the pandemic is lifted as many Canadians will be in deeper depression, obesity, and stress than ever before.

    - coaches who reply on personal training and teaching classes have lost income.

    - additionally as a mobile business, we operate by being able to move around have multiple classes at different locations. All of these locations cost rent which had already been charged for March resulting in a deficit for the company.
